Experts of Otkritie Avto (the auto business unit of Otkritie Bank) and the AUTOSTAT agency conducted a joint survey of the Russian used car market and determined its financial capacity* at the end of November 2022. According to the results of the survey, at the end of autumn, the residents of the Russian Federation spent 413.8 billion rubles for the used cars, which is 7% higher than in October (387.4 billion rubles). The increase in the financial capacity of the secondary market in November is largely due to an increase in the number of sold used cars - by 5% more than a month earlier (460.1 thousand and 437 thousand units, respectively). In November, the share of younger cars in the financial capacity of the market increased. Russians spent the most money for used cars under the age of 5 years. In November, they cost 171 billion rubles, which is 41.3% of the total.

At the same time, a month earlier, their share was 40%. It was spent for cars of the age categories "5-9 years" and "10 years and older" 113.4 billion and 129.4 billion rubles (27.4% and 31.3%, respectively). Their share decreased slightly - in October they owned 28.3% and 31.7%. But in quantitative terms, younger cars occupy the smallest share. Thus, in November, 70.5 thousand cars under the age of 5 years were purchased, which corresponds to 15.3% of the secondary market. Next, according to the preferences of the inhabitants of our country, cars of the age category "5-9 years old" follow (96.2 thousand units; 20.9%). The most numerous is the category of cars "10 years and older" (293.4 thousand units; 63.8%). Chinese brands show the largest growth in the financial capacity of the used car market. In November, the Russians bought 8.3 thousand used Chinese cars worth 5.8 billion rubles. In both cases, the "Chinese" demonstrate the best dynamics in relation to the results of October (+9% and +13%, respectively). However, their share is still very small: if in pieces they took 1.8% of the secondary market, then in monetary terms - 1.4%.

As for the rest of the brands by country of origin, their sales in the "secondary" market for the month increased by 3 - 6%, and the financial capacity increased by no more than 8%. Most of the money is still spent for used cars of European brands (in November - 158.5 billion rubles), which are slightly inferior to the "Japanese" (140.8 billion rubles). Then, with a huge lag, cars with mileage of Korean and Russian brands follow (54.8 billion and 31 billion rubles, respectively). The TOP-5 is finished by the "Americans" with 22.4 billion rubles.
