The share of the Russian automotive industry in the domestic market should grow to 80%

The share of Russian cars inside the country should double for eight years. Domestic cars will occupy 80% of the market by 2030, said Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. At the same time, according to him, by 2025 the country expects to triple the production of auto components and double the total output of all types of cars. Such goals are spelled out in the strategy for the development of the automotive industry, the Kommersant newspaper writes. In the short and medium term, it will be done mainly through highly localized products and an increase in the number of cars produced on the same platform. Moreover, the authorities will focus, among other things, on the development of hybrids and electric vehicles.

"This unification will allow scaling up our own component base, the requirements for the participation of foreign partners in the production of components will be adjusted. I mean the creation of joint ventures with a controlling stake and intellectual property rights on the Russian side. For the development of components and materials, we propose to allocate the bulk of state funding through the current specialized program of the Industrial Development Fund. Its volume has been increased to 50 billion rubles this year," said Denis Manturov. According to the forecast of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association, the share of sales of Chinese cars in the Russian market in the coming years may grow from the current 30% to 70%. True, it is in case that the country continues to increase their production, and the domestic auto industry, on the contrary, will slow down. After almost all Western automakers have left the Russian market, there are not so many options to increase capacity and produce more local cars and components for them, says Sergey Tselikov, director of the AUTOSTAT analytical agency.

"If you look at the auto industry, then Russia can arrange cooperation only with friendly countries, and it remains only China in fact with developed production. Potentially, there is also the Indian auto industry, but it is weaker, as well as the Iranian one. In principle, everything related to the development of the component base, the assembly of cars, is the PRC. They will try to localize something on the territory of Russia. As for the plans for the next eight years, in the short term it is definitely only the assembly of Chinese cars. There is no Russian platform, except for AVTOVAZ. It takes three to five years and billions of investments to create its own site. If it happens, it is possible to tighten the engineering potential and everything else," the expert sums up.
