AVTOVAZ plans to produce LADA cars at the former Nissan plant that are more expensive than the main line, at least three models will be produced at the start, company president Maxim Sokolov said. It is planned to set various models of C and D segments for the production, including crossovers and sedans. Currently AVTOVAZ is actively negotiating with several potential production partners, the RIA Novosti agency writes. According to the head of AVTOVAZ, the negotiations are at the final stage, and, perhaps, it will not be even one Chinese automaker.
As a part of the new project, AVTOVAZ expects to start the production of new cars under the LADA brand in St. Petersburg in the second half of next year. In 2023, up to 10 thousand cars are planned to be produced at the former Nissan plant. Let us recall that the decision to transfer the enterprise under the control of AVTOVAZ was made by the company's shareholders with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the authorities of St. Petersburg. On October 11th, Nissan's executive committee approved the sale of its Russian assets to FSUE NAMI, subordinated to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
As a result of the transaction, 100% of Nissan's assets in Russia (managed by the legal entity Nissan Manufacturing Rus) were transferred to NAMI for the implementation of future passenger car production projects. In turn, AVTOVAZ will manage the former Nissan car plant in St. Petersburg. The transferred business, including Nissan's production and research centers in St. Petersburg, as well as the sales and marketing center in Moscow, will operate under the new name. As part of the agreements, AVTOVAZ took the tasks of warranty and after-sales service of Nissan cars in the Russian market, as well as the supply of spare parts to the dealer network of the Japanese brand.
