Growth in demand for used cars is observed only at dealers

Before the New Year holidays, the demand for used cars in Russia froze. Major car search services note a decrease in requests in compare with November. Dealers, the share of which in this market is 10-20%, on the contrary, record an influx of customers for used cars - this is facilitated by both the replenishment of the fleet through trade-in against the backdrop of discounts on new Chinese cars, and the dynamics of the ruble, writes the Kommersant newspaper. According to Vladimir Zhelobov, sales director of used cars at Avtodom Group of Companies and AvtoSpetsTsentr Group of Companies, the main reason for the growth in demand for used cars is the increase in the price of new cars. In addition, the Russian car market has changed significantly after the departure of some European and Western manufacturers.

According to the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", in November, Russians purchased 460.1 thousand used cars, which is 6.4% lower in compare with the previous year. For 11 months of 2022, 4.4 million used cars were purchased in Russia, which is 19.7% lower than in January-November 2021.
