AVTOVAZ plans to present a prototype of the LADA e-Largus electric car in Izhevsk before the end of this year. This was announced in an interview with the Russia 24 TV channel by the president of the company, Maxim Sokolov, adding that an experimental lot of electric vehicles will be produced in 2023. According to him, AVTOVAZ is also working on new car models, including the creation of its own domestic electric car. At the same time, the head of AVTOVAZ expressed the opinion that electric vehicles in Russia will not become widespread in the coming years, at least until 2030, "due to certain geographical features, large spaces of our country, and hence large distances between cities." However, despite the difficulties, electric vehicles will be able to find their niche in large cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as their regions.

As previously reported, LADA e-Largus electric van can go into the mass production no earlier than 2024; its production will be launched at the LADA Izhevsk plant. According to the Russian Automobile public, AvtoVAZ has to obtain vehicle type approval for e-Largus, as well as find suppliers of the necessary components for its production. Electric LADA Largus will be built on the basis of the classic version of the model. Engineers plan to install an electric engine in place of the internal combustion engine. Traction batteries will be placed under the rear sofa and in the engine compartment. In addition, the rear suspension would have to be repositioned to increase interior space, which would change assembly processes.
