In 2008 almost 1 million cars will be imported form Japan to Russia

Appealing to Russia to cancel the decision about increase of duties for imported foreign cars, Japan pursues quite clear aims. The question price is 20 billion USD.
According to the director of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT Sergey Tselikov almost 1 million cars will be imported form Japan to Russia this year including about 620,000-630,000 new cars and more than 300,000 second-hand ones. Besides, rather many automobile components and spare parts are imported from Japan. The total volume of import in money terms will exceed 20 billion USD. According to Sergey Tselikov next year increase of duties will reduce the supply volume twice and in case of progressing of the financial crisis it may probably be more. Japanese have not managed yet to construct assembly plants in Russia. Only the assembly line Toyota near St.-Petersburg has started to work but not to the full capacity. The end of the projects begun by companies Nissan, Mitsubishi and Suzuki is still very far.
The AUTOSTAT informed earlier that for the Japanese car industry the Russian car market is now the second important one after the USA. The American share is a little more than 30 % of total export volume and the Russian share is about 9 percent. Australia is on the third place which share is a little more than 6 % of export. Further there is Canada (3.6 %), Arab Emirates (3.1 %), Saudi Arabia (2.9 %), China (2.4 %), Germany (2.2 %), the Great Britain (1.9 %) and Oman (1.9 %). Also shares from 1.4 % to 1.7 % of the Japanese auto export fall on such countries as Ukraine, France, Mexico, Israel and the republic of South Africa.
