In the case of setting up production in Russia, including entering into technological partnerships with Russian automakers, foreign auto companies are entitled to count on government support measures. This was reported in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, by specifying that we are talking, in particular, about such measures as special investment contracts (SPIC 1.0 and SPIC 2.0) aimed at stimulating investment in industrial production in Russia, a program to support research and development work (R&D ). Also this year, the Auto Components program was launched, which is being implemented jointly with the Industrial Development Fund. In addition, there are targeted programs to stimulate demand and a number of other measures to support the industry.

“This set of measures is also available to foreign investors who have made a strategic decision on long-term partnership and investment in technology development in Russia,” the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasizes. According to Aleksey Podshchekoldin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BN-Motors, the auto retailer of the Russian Federation is currently experiencing unprecedented pressure from unfriendly countries. In terms of the number of sanctions imposed, Russia is ahead of such countries as Iran, Syria, North Korea and others. As of November 1st, 2022, only 14 of 60 car brands remained in the Russian market.

Three Russian (LADA, GAZ, UAZ) and exclusively Chinese brands (Haval, Chery, Geely, EXEED, Changan, FAW, OMODA, GAC, Dongfeng, Great Wall, JAC). As a result, after the departure of many foreign brands, the new car market in Russia will decrease by at least 1.1 million transactions. So, in 2022, instead of the usual car sales of 1.5-1.7 million units, it will be sold at best 650 thousand cars. According to the most optimistic forecasts, the number of brands in 2023 may increase due to the arrival of an Iranian automaker (Iran Khodro), the start of sales of Moskvich brand cars and 2-3 Chinese automakers. With this in mind, the number of brands represented in Russia is unlikely to exceed 17-18.
