Toyota fired the bulk of the employees of the Russian plant

St. Petersburg Toyota plant is going to complete the layoffs by the end of 2022. This was reported to the Interfax agency in the press service of Toyota Motor, by adding that today most of the employees of the enterprise have been dismissed by agreement of the parties, and the branch currently employs 137 employees. According to the company, the total number of Toyota Motor employees as of September of this year was 2.35 thousand people.

In September 2022, Toyota Motor announced the closure of a plant in St. Petersburg due to the impossibility of the rhythmic supply of the necessary components. In the future, the enterprise will be mothballed, and at present the government of St. Petersburg, together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, are working out possible scenarios for the development of this production site. At the same time, the operating activities of the Moscow office of Toyota Motor will be restructured with a focus on supporting the dealer network to continue after-sales service for Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Russia.

Recall that the Toyota plant in St. Petersburg has suspended its work since March 4th, 2022 due to a break in supply chains. The company produced Toyota Camry business sedan and RAV4 crossover. The capacities of the Toyota Motor plant in St. Petersburg allow the production of up to 100,000 vehicles.
