The share of crossovers and SUVs in the Russian market reached a record 57%

According to the results of October 2022, there were purchased 24,711 new crossovers and SUVs in Russia, which is 57.1% of the total volume of the passenger car market, experts of the AUTOSTAT agency reported with reference to the data of JSC "PPK"*. Thus, the market share of the SUV segment has set a historical record. Recall that for the first time this segment overcame the mark of 50% in March 2020 - then its share was 50.8%.

Then it periodically fell below or exceeded this threshold. Since August 2021, crossovers and SUVs have consistently accounted for more than a half of the Russian market, and in March of this year, this figure reached 55.8%. True, in August it still fell below the “psychological” mark, by reaching 49.5% ... But then the share of SUVs went up again, eventually setting a new record. Experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" explain this situation by the fact that the share of Chinese models has significantly increased in the Russian market (since the beginning of the year - three times), almost all of which are presented in the SUV segment. In addition, AVTOVAZ resumed the production of LADA Niva Legend and Niva Travel off-road vehicles in the summer.

At the same time, due to anti-Russian sanctions, deliveries of cars of European, Japanese and American brands, among which there were also many SUV models, were stopped. But Korean brands have suspended the production due to problems with the logistics of components. Of course, parallel imports have started to work, but it is not enough to compensate for the lost market volumes.
