Dealers told how they will replace cars of departed brands

According to the monitoring conducted by the agency "AUTOSTAT", as of mid-October of this year, there were 3.1 thousand car dealers in Russia. At the same time, foreign automakers continue to leave the Russian market, the majority of which have remained, have not made a decision yet, but they cannot resume car deliveries either. Experts interviewed by the agency "AUTOSTAT" told how dealers of outdated brands can continue their activities in the face of falling demand and redundancy of dealer networks.

According to Aleksey Starikov, Deputy General Director of Sales of New Cars of AVILON AG, due to the fact that some car brands announced their withdrawal from Russia, while others suspended deliveries for an indefinite period, dealers' warehouses began to empty. Stocks are declining. All market players have a different situation regarding the availability of cars, depending on the brand, but in average, the balance can be enough for several months of work, and it should be borne in mind that the terms may be reduced or increased depending on the pace of sales. To date, dealers have chosen the vector of replenishing warehouses using parallel import channels or developing dealer networks of Chinese distributors.

“The redundancy of dealerships of Chinese brands is already a given fact that needs to be dealt with. Excessive desire to fulfill the plan to open dealers among the Chinese has created a certain bias in this matter. This has significantly changed the financial model of dealers and reduced significantly their margins. At the current moment, it is necessary to stop the development of the network (opening of new dealerships) in large cities in order to keep high-quality customer service. It is difficult to make a forecast for Korean brands - we have to wait for the formation of plans for the next year: from the point of view of sanctions, nothing prevents them from delivering cars to Russia, but there are many other points that make it difficult to do business there,” says Andrei Olkhovsky, CEO of Avtodom Group of Companies.

But Sergey Vainer, the development director of AVTOPOLE, believes that the potential for the development of dealer networks of Chinese automakers in the current market conditions is huge, because now European, American, and Japanese automakers are not represented in the market. No one will be surprised if Chinese brands sell hundreds of thousands of cars by the end of 2023.
