Market structure of used cars by brands and segments


In October 2022, the «Chinese» occupied almost 30% of the Russian market


At the end of October 2022, 12,767 new passenger cars of Chinese brands were purchased in Russia, which is 29.5% of the total market. This is reported by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" with reference to the data of JSC "PPK"*. While the whole Russian car market is falling (-63% in October, details are here), sales of the “Chinese” are growing, and for the third month in a row. So, in August they grew by 20%, in September - by 8%, and in October - by 3%.

Accordingly, the market share of Chinese brands is growing: if in January-March it was 9-10%, now it is three times higher. Every third (34%) Chinese car bought in October belongs to the brand Haval, which amounted to 4316 units - 8.4% higher than a year ago. Chery had a slightly lower result (3,838 units; -16%), which accounted for 30%. Approximately one fifth (19.4%) of the purchased "Chinese" remained with Geely (2,483 units; -11.7%). Let's also note EXEED (1163 units; growth by 5.7 times), which also managed to overcome the thousandth mark. Sales volumes of cars of other Chinese brands in October were less than 300 units.

In the ranking of the most popular models from China, according to the results of October, Haval Jolion excels, which was purchased in the amount of 3049 cars per a month. But the most popular "Chinese" in September - Chery Tiggo 7 PRO (2134 units) fell to the second position. Geely Coolray finished the top three with 1,394 units. Chery Tiggo 4 (1029 units) also overcame the threshold of 1 thousand units, while the performance of other Chinese models is below this value.
