LADA cars can be equipped with automatic transmission from China

AVTOVAZ is currently selecting an automatic transmission supplier from China. It was expected that this would be a classic “automatic transmission”, but the plans of the engineering service have changed, the drom.ru portal reports, citing its own source at the enterprise. Now there is a choice between a variator and a "robot" with two clutches.

There are two reasons why AVTOVAZ abandoned the classic automatic transmission for LADA models. First of all it is the price. Thus, the wholesale cost of the variator is about 6-9 thousand yuan, while the automatic transmission will cost the plant 10-15 thousand yuan. Another reason for moving away from automatic transmission is the complex supply chain. AVTOVAZ may not agree on cooperation with all manufacturers. The fact is that some of the transmissions are produced in China under licenses from Western companies, which cannot be purchased directly.

Now the Russian automaker has a choice between three Chinese suppliers. Two of them are already working in the Russian market. Earlier there were reports that the choice of transmission and all preparatory work should be completed by March 1st - the start of production of LADA Vesta in Togliatti. However, AVTOVAZ specialists do not have time to complete all the work by the appointed date. Recall that now the production of LADA Vesta car is transferred from the site in Izhevsk to the territory of the plant, which is located in Togliatti. At the same time, dealers report that stocks of the flagship model are already running out.
