Bridgestone searches for a buyer for its assets in Russia

Bridgestone has announced the launch of a search for a local buyer for its assets in Russia. The management explained the decision by the conditions of "uncertainty and continuing difficulties in the supply chain."

Recall that we are talking about a tire manufacturer, which has been represented in Russia since 1998. At the moment, it has a sales and marketing office in Moscow and a manufacturing plant in Ulyanovsk (operating since December 2016 and producing more than 5 million tires). Bridgestone's production portfolio includes tires ranging from 13 to 19 inches for passenger cars, crossovers and SUVs, as well as tires homologated for supply to automakers as original equipment. Since mid-2019, Blizzak winter tires manufactured at the plant in Ulyanovsk have been exported to Finland, Sweden, and Norway.

For 2022, the company planned to increase the production volumes, expand cooperation with automakers and develop exports. In March 2022, after the start of a special military operation, the production of tires in Ulyanovsk was suspended, all the months that passed after that the company was engaged in analyzing the situation on the market, while continuing to pay wages to its employees (about 1000 people) and, as stated in the press release "while maintaining all employee benefit and compensation programs."

Now that the decision to sell the assets has been made, Bridgestone management expects the process of finding buyers and closing the deal could take several months. At one time, only investments in the production were 12.5 billion rubles.
