Iran Khodro presented a prototype of a new model

Iranian automaker Iran Khodro has unveiled a prototype of a new model, which has the factory index TF21. The novelty is a compact hatchback with crossover elements, but so far the manufacturer has presented only an approximate layout of the future car without a passenger compartment and without an engine. According to the Motor.ru portal, the car is based on the platform of the compact Peugeot 206 model, which Iran Khodro produces under license at its facilities. It is likely that the platform will be upgraded to meet all modern world standards.

Despite the fact that the layout of the novelty does not have a power unit, it is already known that in the engine compartment of the serial version, a standard for Iran Khodro 1.6-liter “aspirated” with a capacity of 110 hp will be installed, paired with which will operate a 5-speed manual transmission. As previously reported, Iran Khodro intends to enter the Russian market in early 2023, and the first model should be the Tara sedan, built on the Peugeot 301 platform. Iran Khodro brand cars, such as Rira crossover, Tara and Samand compact sedans, as well as KMC J7 sedan from the automaker Kerman Motor, can replace not only European models that are practically no longer supplied to the Russian market (Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Polo), but also to push the demanded Korean cars of the mass segment (Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio).

Andrey Olkhovsky, General Director of Avtodom Group of Companies, says that the prospects for Iranian cars are not obvious yet - it is necessary to import and test demand for them. But at the same time, they will become an obvious competitor for the domestic AVTOVAZ both in terms of price and characteristics.
