Dealers told how the shortage influenced online car sales

During the preparation for the forum "IT-Revolution in the auto business - 2022", dealers interviewed by the agency "AUTOSTAT" spoke about the current situation with online car sales in Russia and their future. Recall that online sales received a boost during the coronavirus restrictions.

According to Yulia Ovchinnikova, Development Director at KLYUCHAVTO, supply restrictions affect the consumer's behavioral model, and remote transactions are becoming more popular due to the lack of reference to the region at the stage of selecting, concluding a transaction and receiving a car. Thus, in the period from March to September of this year, the share of remote sales in Klyuchavto was 28%, which exceeds the figures of the previous year by several times.

In turn, Denis Migal, CEO of the automotive marketplace Fresh Auto, notes that in the face of a shortage of new cars, Russians are increasingly interested in used cars, the situation with the availability of which is much better. In the near future, online sales will develop in this segment, as the secondary market has become almost the only way for many professional players and will be of interest to them. At Fresh Auto, the share of online sales increased by 10% in the first half of 2022 in compare with the second half of 2021.

“Today car sales are 95% offline. The online sales format is now on hold. As soon as external factors are stable, then digital sales channels will begin to operate at full capacity. I think that in the future, every year online sales will grow significantly with a stable external situation. My prediction is that between 7% and 10% of the market will go online every year. At the moment, it seems to me that the potential of online trading is about 35% of the whole car market,” says Andrey Olkhovsky, General Director of Avtodom Group of Companies.
