The Executive Committee of Nissan approved the sale of its Russian assets to FSUE NAMI, subordinated to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The deal involves the sale of 100% of Nissan's assets in Russia to NAMI for the implementation of future projects for the production of passenger cars.
The transferred business, including Nissan's production and research centers in St. Petersburg, as well as the sales and marketing center in Moscow, will operate under the new name, the Nissan press service said. Under the terms of the sale, Nissan is entitled to repurchase the company and business within the next six years. As a part of the agreements on the transfer of 100% of the Russian assets of Nissan Manufacturing Rus to state ownership, AVTOVAZ will take on the tasks of warranty and after-sales service for Nissan cars in the Russian market, as well as the supply of spare parts to the dealer network of the Japanese brand.
It is planned that Nissan dealers that decided to continue the work with Japanese brand cars, will sign relevant agreements with AVTOVAZ. Nissan's one-time losses due to exit from the market are estimated at about 100 billion yen. As AUTOSTAT previously reported, Nissan plant in St. Petersburg has suspended work since March 14 due to interruptions in the supply of components. Until recently, the company produced three models - crossovers Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano. Recall that the production of cars at the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg began in 2009.
The amount of investments in the construction of an enterprise with a capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year was $200 million, and the company invested other 167 million Euros in the launch of the second stage (2014). At present, the production capacity of the plant allows the production of up to 100 thousand cars per year. The number of employees of the enterprise is about 2 thousand people, who, after the change of ownership of Nissan Russia, will receive guarantees for the protection of their rights for a period of 12 months.
For the first nine months of 2022, 15,135 Nissan vehicles were purchased in Russia, which is 57.2% lower than the previous year.
