How is the Russian car market changing?

Experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", by evaluating the data for September, noted the ongoing changes in the market structure as important trends. “This year it changes so much and becomes what it has never been,” said Sergey Tselikov, director of the agency. - And first of all, the share of domestic brands has changed, mainly due to domestic LADA, and Chinese ones. The share of Russian brands in the market has already exceeded 40%, while Chinese brands have reached 27%. At the same time, Korean brands accounted for only 14%, Japanese brands for about 8%, and the total share of “Europeans” is already less than 10%.

In the brand rating, the largest figures for the September growth dynamics are for LADA (+10% in compare with the previous year, which is understandable - the domestic brand had problems with the supply of components in the autumn of 2021) and Chinese brands. Big changes in the market have taken place in relation to its division into mass and premium segments. If at the beginning of 2022 the share of the premium segment was 9-10%, then in September it was only 3%. The drop in the premium segment is more significant than in the mass segment, because such cars have practically ceased to be sold in Russia, and the balances in the warehouses of dealers are small. Among other trends, experts also noted electric vehicles.

In September, according to JSC "PPK" *, Russians bought about 200 units of them. This segment is growing quite dynamically, largely due to the emergence of new brands/models. Recall that in September the production of domestic Evolute electric cars started in Russia and a new brand for the country was presented - the Chinese Skywell (it was announced for sales in October). In addition, for the current year, the model rating within the “electric segment” has changed significantly: newcomers appeared in its structure, such as the Volkswagen ID.4, which immediately found itself among the leaders.
