AEB: Russian car market fell by 60% in September of 2022


Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in September fell by 59.6% down to 46,698 vehicles. According to the results of nine months of 2022, the Russian car market was 506,661 vehicles (-59.8%), according to the data of the Association of European Businesses. Meanwhile, according to the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" with reference to the data of JSC "PPK" *, the Russian market volume of new cars in September 2022 was 44,398 units, which is 60.4% lower in compare with the same month the previous year.

At the same time, the experts noted that in compare with August this year, the Russian car market shows a slight increase (+4%). Since the beginning of the year, 474,703 passenger cars have been purchased in Russia, which is 59.2% lower than in January-September of 2021. Leadership in the market is held by the domestic brand LADA –Russians purchased 17,490 of these cars last month (+9.8%).

Among foreign cars, the Chinese Chery became the most popular for the first time, the result of which was 3850 cars (-9.6%). Thus, Kia moved down to the third place in the sales ranking with 3,291 sold cars (-80.7%). This is followed by the brand Haval, the crossovers of which were chosen by 3,176 buyers (+3.6%). Hyundai cars were sold in the amount of 2,808 units, which is 78.3% lower than the previous year. The TOP-10 of leaders of the Russian car market in September also included: Geely (2780 units, +3.3%), Renault (1576 units, -81.7%), EXEED (1283 units, an increase of 7.4 times), Toyota (1178 units, -86.5%) and Volkswagen (946 units, -86.5%).
