Belarus imposes a six-month ban on the export of a number of manufactured goods, including cars

From September 23rd, Belarus introduces a temporary ban on the export of more than 250 industrial goods, including cars and motorcycles, outside the country. The decision of the government of Belarus will be valid for six months, the TASS agency reports.

According to the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA), the Belarusian car market in August fell by 83.9% and reached 542 cars. According to the results of eight months of 2022, the sale of new cars in this republic was 11,764 units. In January-August, LADA became the leader of the car market of Belarus, having sold 3,490 cars. Followed by brands Geely and Kia, the sales figures of which are not disclosed.

According to the BAA, the expected level of sales in the coming months will largely be determined by the sales volume of Geely. Without taking into account the sale of the BelGee plant, the market is unlikely to overcome the milestone of 500 passenger cars per a month. Overall, dealer inventory of new vehicles exceeds 2,000 units, in line with the current three-month sales volume. At the same time, the distribution of stocks between car brands is, of course, extremely uneven, and the range of new cars from dealers continues to decline.
