Half of the Moscow car market in August belongs to Chinese brands

In the previous month of summer, the residents of the Russian capital bought 3,167 new Chinese-made cars. According to the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT", by the results of processing and analyzing the data of JSC "Electronic Passport", this is 49.7% of the total volume of the Moscow car market. At the same time, in the country as a whole, the share of cars from China in August was 25.9%.

Recall that in the winter of this year, the share of "Chinese" cars in the Moscow market was still at the level of 8 - 9%, after which it began to grow. Thus, in March it overcame the 10% barrier, in June it reached a quarter, and in July it increased to 32%. Also in July, the "Chinese" cars for the first time outstripped the former leaders of the capital's car market - the "Koreans" (their share was 22%). In August, the gap between them only intensified - the share of Korean brands fell to 17.3%.

However, if we consider the results of 8 months of 2022, then the "Koreans" still remain the leaders of the capital market. Their share for this period is 23.5%. For the "Chinese", this figure is 16.7%, and they are inferior even to the "Japanese" and "Germans" (18% each). But given the current situation in the car market, already by the end of 9 months, Chinese automakers can rise to the second place, and by the end of the year they have excellent chances of becoming No. 1 in Moscow.
