The share of individuals in the import of cars in the Russian market grew up to 20%


In January 2022, the share of individuals in the structure of car imports was only 3%, in May it was already 9%, and in July it grew to 20%. Such data was given on September 8th during the "AUTOSTAT Operativka" by the executive director of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", Sergey Udalov. The geography of importing countries has also changed. If in the 1st quarter of the year the first three lines of the list of such countries were occupied by China, Belgium and Germany, then in the second quarter it was also China (but with a different share), they are South Korea and Japan. Big changes have taken place in relation to the equity participation of importing countries. Experts are confident that the picture will continue to change.

Allowed parallel imports will have more of an impact. Sergey Udalov explained what parallel imports are in the Russian market today - as it turned out, many understand it differently. In fact, parallel import is the import of a car into the country without the permission of the copyright holder (VTA owner). Individuals do not need such permission, but for legal entities this is an important point. Firstly, practice has shown that not all brands can be brought in bulk using the parallel import mechanism.

Secondly, there are not so many such cars that you can bring - for various reasons. Thirdly, the import clearance procedure for legal entities is much more complicated than for "physicists". For registration of such cars, they need to obtain permission from NAMI (after a series of tests). If at the beginning of the year the ratio of cars imported into Russia was in favor of new ones (15.7 thousand vs. 10.7 thousand units or 59% vs. 41%), then almost all summer – in May, June, July - the situation is opposite. Thus, in July, the share of new cars in imports was only 32% (8,000 units against 17,000 units).
