In the framework of the last online conference “AUTOSTAT Analytic Day: Car Market Forecast 2020 under uncertainty”, the experts shared their views on the development of the new passenger car market in Russia. According to the director of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, Sergey Tselikov, this year the market of new cars in Russia may fall by 30-50%, depending on the development scenarios.

AVTOVAZ is preparing an updated LADA Granta family

AVTOVAZ is planning to start the production of the updated LADA Granta family soon, said the company's president Maxim Sokolov. "It will be a whole family of cars: a sedan, a station wagon, and a more advanced model based on a station wagon, which we intend to produce in a couple of years, and this will be a new step in our domestic automotive industry," he explained. The automaker now has 25 different prototypes of the new model, but the exact timeline for launching the production is still unclear. As the president of AVTOVAZ noted, much of the time will be spent on localizing imported components or searching for spare parts produced in friendly countries. Recall that in early June, AVTOVAZ resumed the work from the production of a simplified LADA Granta.

Meanwhile, options are gradually returning to LADA cars that were not available until recently due to the lack of appropriate components. Thus, airbags and air conditioning, as well as ERA-GLONASS module with a mechanical activation system, reappeared in the equipment of LADA Granta. In 2023, AVTOVAZ also plans to return the ABS anti-lock braking system and the ESP vehicle lateral stability system to LADA vehicles. LADA Granta Classic’22 is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine with 90 hp adapted to run on AI-92 gasoline and 5-speed manual transmission. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 6.5 liters per 100 km.

According to the results of eight months of 2022, sales of LADA Granta in the Russian market fell by 56% to 39,961 cars, according to the data of AUTOSTAT agency and Electronic Passport JSC. Nevertheless, the AVTOVAZ "low cost" car has become the most popular model in the Russian car market.
