Hino Motors refuses to launch the production in Russia

Japanese manufacturer of trucks and buses Hino Motors abandoned plans about the commission of a plant in Khimki. According to the NHK television channel, the main reasons for this decision were the delay in construction work and tax problems. At the same time, it is noted that the refusal of Hino Motors from the project is not related to the events in Ukraine, and the current restriction on the export of Japanese trucks to Russia is considered by the automaker as temporary.

Media reports that the project to build a Hino Motors plant in Khimki was frozen at the end of last year, the company offered the site to other automakers, and was also looking for a Russian partner to gain access to benefits. Recall that in October 2017, the Japanese company Hino Motors and the government of the Moscow Region signed an agreement on the construction of a new plant for the production of trucks in the region.

The first stone in the construction of the enterprise in the city of Khimki near Moscow was laid in April 2019. The volume of investments in the plant with a production capacity of about 2 thousand units per a year was estimated at 17 million US dollars. The launch of serial production at the new enterprise was originally scheduled for May 2020, but it was repeatedly postponed - the last time until 2023.

The new plant was planned to produce medium- and light-duty trucks in four modifications: Hino 300 vehicles with a gross weight of 3.5 tons and 7.5 tons, as well as Hino 500 with 12 and 18 tons. In addition to commercial vehicles, we regularly monitor the passenger car market.
