AEB: Russian car market fell by 62% in August of 2022


Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia fell by 62.4% in August to 41,698 vehicles. According to the results of eight months of 2022, the Russian car market was 410,548 vehicles (-60.7%), according to the data of the Association of European Businesses.

Meanwhile, according to the data of the AUTOSTAT agency and Electronic Passport JSC, the Russian market volume of new passenger cars in August 2022 was 42,593 units, which is 63.6% lower in compare with the same month of the previous year. At the same time, experts noted that in relation to July of this year, the Russian car market shows the growth (+20%).

Since the beginning of the year, 430,305 passenger cars have been purchased in Russia, which is 59.1% lower than in January-August of 2021. Leadership in the market is held by the domestic brand LADA – Russians purchased 15,737 of these cars (-31.5%) the previous month. Among foreign cars, Kia remains the most popular, the result of which was 3872 cars (-78.5%). Three Chinese brands follow at once: Haval (3040 units, +32.5%), Chery (2983 units, -21.1%) and Geely (2935 units, +35.5%). Thus, Hyundai dropped from the third to the sixth place in the sales ranking with 2,888 sold cars (-76.1%).

The TOP-10 of leaders of the Russian car market in August also included: Renault (1784 units, -83.1%), EXEED (1282 units, an increase of 8.7 times), Toyota (1116 units, -83.1 %) and Volkswagen (835 units, -88.3%).
