The information that the car factories that have suspended their activities have decided on their plans in Russia is not entirely true. In fact, today's high-profile headlines in the media seem to be an attempt to get feedback from the management of such companies as Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Ford, BMW, Nissan, Toyota and others. In fact, the same Mercedes-Benz, which, according to rumors, was preparing for the sale of a production site in the Moscow region, is actually simply "considering various options for doing business in Russia, there are no concrete decisions yet," Izvestia was informed by the press service of "Mercedes Benz Rus". We decided to take a look at some other production sites that contributed to the Russian auto industry before their suspensions (some went idle since the beginning of March, some later). In fact, except for Renault, which officially announced its departure (but at the same time was ready to return), no one made it clear that they had decided on the choice of the future path. Representatives of BMW did not make any more statements, except for those that were made in early March.

Yes, the production in Kaliningrad is idle, but not put up for sale - and this despite the fact that Avtotor will soon need new sites: according to the company, it will have to build several plants for the production of auto components for the assembly of future electric cars. Recall that BMW has something to lose in Russia: literally on the eve of the special operation, in February 2022, BMW Group and Avtotor signed an agreement on the implementation of a project for the production of BMW cars in a full cycle. The company was ready to make new serious investments, negotiations on this had been going on for more than one year. As for Mazda Sollers Manufacturing Rus, the list of the Ministry of Industry and Trade does not include Mazda cars and spare parts allowed for import. This was recalled at the specialized auto business conference "Parallel Imports: Automobiles, Spare Parts, Components" by ROAD Vice President Dmitry Gulin on August 16th: "The list (of goods included in permitted parallel imports - ed.) does not include "Chinese", "Koreans", Peugeot, Citroen, Mazda and Renault.

Obviously, this is a list of companies that have been able to convince that they can handle and provide the necessary range. In general, it is still too early to say that the companies have decided on their plans in Russia. You can simply understand the difficulties of their leadership, when there are no opportunities (logistical problems) or rights (sanctions due to geopolitics) to continue the assembly of cars, and the maintaining of even mothballed sites for six months is a monthly loss.
