In August, the Russian car market continued its slow recovery and will show the best result since the beginning of the crisis - sales of new passenger cars will reach 42 thousand units, follows from the data of the AUTOSTAT agency. However, the market is still almost a half of what it was in March, and car dealer stocks continue to shrink. Now sales are supported by government-subsidized concessional lending that stimulates demand for LADA, as well as large deals on the purchase of Chinese cars for car sharing parks. According to the basic forecast of the agency "AUTOSTAT", the sales volume of new cars in 2022 will be 620 thousand units.
However, if the development of the market follows a pessimistic scenario, then its volume may reach 570,000 units. As for the recovery of the market, it will be protracted. At the same time, the market is unlikely to return to the pre-Covid level of 1.5 million units, as for this it is necessary that prices “roll back” to the previous level, and this most likely will not happen. The most realistic scenario is that the market will reach the mark of 1 million units in 2024-2025.
