Preferential customs clearance of cars may appear in Russia

Deputies of the State Duma have developed a draft law providing for the introduction of preferential treatment for the import of cars from abroad by certain categories of citizens. According to the document, parents or adoptive parents in large families, as well as combat veterans, will be entitled to a refund of half of the amount paid in the form of customs duty.

It is assumed that the new procedure for customs clearance of cars will come into force on January 1st, 2023 and will be valid for 12 months. However, this period may be extended by decision of the Russian government, the bill states. As previously reported by "AUTOSTAT", according to the results of seven months of 2022, Vladivostok customs officers issued 78,460 cars imported by individuals, which is 33% higher in compare with the same period of the previous year.

Among the imported vehicles, second-hand "Japanese" and a small number of cars of Korean and Chinese brands predominate, according to the data of the Vladivostok customs. According to Denis Reshetnikov, the head of the dealership of the Fresh Auto car dealership network, the lack of new cars from dealers and the increase in the cost of used cars by 3.5% in July became drivers for the growth of independent imports of foreign cars from abroad among Russians.

Demand for used imported foreign cars is growing due to the more affordable cost of cars abroad and, of course, a wider range.
