The share of the premium segment in the Russian market fell to a record low level

In July 2022, the residents of the Russian Federation became owners of 1.4 thousand new premium cars, which is only 4% of the total volume of the passenger car market. Such data, focusing on the information of JSC "Electronic Passport", was noted by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT". Experts note that the premium segment is falling more than the mass segment, and this is already a stable trend. So, in July, the market of premium cars fell by 90%, and mass - by 73%. And if in recent years the share of the premium segment has traditionally been around 9-10%, then at the moment it has reached its historical minimum (4%).

At the same time, it is possible that this figure will continue to decline in the coming months. "Practically the entire premium segment is made up of European, Japanese and American brands that adhere to anti-Russian sanctions. Their deliveries to our market have been stopped, stocks are running out, so the volume of sales of such vehicles is falling every month," says Azat Timerkhanov, the head of the press service of the AUTOSTAT agency. As for July, the Russians gave the greatest preference among premium brands to Mercedes-Benz. Last month they bought 417 new passenger cars of this brand.

Then there are two more German brands - BMW (223 units) and Audi (168 units). The TOP-5 also included the Korean Genesis and the American Jeep (128 and 73 units, respectively). And if the market decline of German brands was 88-94%, then Genesis and Jeep look better than others in this regard (-54% and -55% respectively). The Japanese Lexus sank the most (-95%).
