Russian car plants reduce production rates

In October the Russian car plants significantly reduced the production rates of cars. It is connected with the accrued surplus production as in crisis conditions there are more than 300,000 cars piled up in the warehouses of the enterprise.
According to the Ministry of economic development and trade of the Russian Federation for 10 months of 2008 domestic auto manufacturers launched 1.3 million passenger cars, up 19.1 percent from the same period last year and even more than in the whole 2007 when 1,291,000 cars run off the Russian conveyers. The most gain of the industry happened in the first four months of 2008 and moreover it was provided by the manufacturers of foreign cars and first of all by those which use CKD assembly.
Gazrta.ru notes that September became the last month of gain and since October car manufacturers began to reduce the production rates. According to the data of the ministry the gain of production volumes in absolute figures constituted 8.5 percent compared to October 2007 (123,000 units). Sergey Tselikov, the director of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT told Gazrta.ru that compared to September 2008 (139,600 units) there is a tiny minus (-4.4 percent).
Thus, companies reacted to the drop in demand on the domestic market partially caused by the reduction of crediting. In result the number of unsold cars is growing which are piled up in the warehouses of the enterprises. According to Sergey Tselikov at the beginning of October the stock of unsold cars which are piled up in the plants warehouses constituted more than 300,000 cars. About one third of them are the Russian cars mostly Lada and others are foreign cars.
