In Moscow, Moscow region, St. Petersburg and a number of regions of the Russian Federation, sales of cars with right-hand drive are growing

For 6 months of 2022, Russians purchased 263.5 thousand right-hand drive cars, experts of the AUTOSTAT agency report based on the results of processing and analyzing the data of Electronic Passport JSC. Despite the fact that this is 17% lower than in the 1st half of last year, in a number of regions of the Russian Federation, the right-hand drive market is growing.

For example, right-hand drive cars are being bought more frequently in the Central (+9%), Northwestern (+14%) and North Caucasian (+1%) federal districts. But in fairness, these three districts in total account for only 5% of the total sales. But in the Far East and Siberia, which own 84% of the right-hand drive market, their sales fell by 22% and 18%, respectively.

Among the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, the largest growth in the market for right-hand drive cars was recorded in Chechnya (+74%). In addition, the sales volume of such cars grew in 20 regions of our country, and in 15 regions the growth turned out to be double-digit at once. At the same time, Moscow (+18%), the Moscow Region (+15%) and St. Petersburg (+24%) were among them.

Experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" connect the growth in sales of right-hand drive cars with an increase in the volume of their import to Russia from Japan. Also, do not forget about parallel imports, which was allowed by the Government of the Russian Federation in the context of anti-Russian sanctions.
