Dynamics of sales of new cars in the 1st half of 2022

The global car market in June for the first time in a year went "plus"

The global car market grew by 0.4% to 7 million 095 thousand cars and light commercial vehicles in June. Thus, a positive result was recorded for the first time since June the previous year. According to the results of six months of 2022, the sales of cars in the world were 38 million 468 thousand units (-8.5%), according to the consulting company LMC Automotive.

China became the world leader in car sales the previous month with an indicator of 2 million 483 thousand cars, which is 29.5% higher than a year ago. The jump in sales is due, in particular, to deferred consumer demand that has formed during the recent lockdowns in a number of regions of the country, as well as the launch of new measures to support the car market, which, in addition to electric vehicles, now apply to cars with internal combustion engines. In America, 1 million 130 thousand cars were sold - 12.6% lower than a year before.

Automotive markets in Western Europe in June were 1 million 106 thousand cars (-17.4%). Car sales in Eastern Europe fell by 39.7% to 246.6 thousand units. In South America, local dealers sold 198,000 vehicles, down by 3.7% from a year ago. Among the world's largest car markets, it is also worth mentioning Japan (324.9 thousand units, -9.8%), Canada (149 thousand units, -11.5%) and Korea (143 thousand units, -11, 9%).
