The first model of the new OMODA brand, the C5 crossover, will go on sale in the Russian market in the fourth quarter of 2022. Presumably, the novelty may appear at Russian dealers in October. An individual dealer network will be created for the brand on a competitive basis, including 100 partners at the first stage. The company plans to conclude dealer agreements by the end of this summer, the press service of the automaker reports.
Recall that the OMODA C5 crossover was presented last autumn at the Guangzhou Motor Show, and the mass production of new items began in February 2022. Vehicle dimensions are 4400 x 1830 x 1585 mm with a wheelbase of 2630 mm. In terms of parameters, it is between Geely Coolray and Haval Jolion. At the same time, the OMODA C5 looks more futuristic than both potential competitors - largely due to the two-tier optics with a narrow line of daytime running lights, as well as the radiator grille, which has become a part of the bumper. The crossover profile is somewhat reminiscent of the aforementioned Coolray, but the OMODA C5 seems to be more massive. The rear of the car is distinguished by lanterns united in a single line, as well as a chrome trim for the exhaust system.
As for the interior of the OMODA C5, the center console and dashboard screens are a single unit, and the number of physical buttons is kept to a minimum. It is also worth noting the airflow deflectors combined into a single horizontal element, as well as a touch-sensitive climate control unit and wireless charging for a smartphone.
Under the bonnet of OMODA C5, a 1.6-liter representative of the Asteso family is installed, familiar to Russians from EXEED TXL. In China, it has been boosted to 197 hp and gives out 290 Nm, and a couple of it is a 7-speed "robot". The suspension matches the powerful engine: in front it is represented by a standard MacPherson strut, and on the rear axle you can see a multi-link independent scheme. In the future, OMODA C5 will get less powerful 1.5-liter units and even get hybrid and all-electric versions. It should be noted that OMODA C5, like most Chery models, is a front-wheel drive crossover.
As AUTOSTAT previously reported, in June Chery Automotive Rus announced the plans to introduce the third brand in Russia - OMODA. Cars of the new brand on the Russian market will be presented in the high-middle segment, and as Chery Automobiles Rus expects, they will become a worthy alternative to Japanese and German brands that have suspended their activities in Russia. The OMODA brand line will consist of three models: two crossovers and a sedan, which will be introduced in stages until the summer of 2023. By 2025, the model range will be further expanded and updated.
