The lineup of future Moskvich unveiled: the first 600 vehicles to come on sale this year

From the very beginning, when it was announced that the Moscow Government took over Renault Russia plant, there were confident assumptions that Chinese vehicles would be assembled at the enterprise. Most likely Chinese automakers from China (JAC, FAW or BYD) were already named in May. Moreover, it was immediately announced about some kind of technological cooperation with KAMAZ representatives, and also for this reason JAC, as one of the company’s partners, was considered the main contender. On July 6, all preliminary agreements ended up with the signing of a very specific document between KAMAZ and the Government of Moscow, the subject of which was the production facilities of former Renault Russia plant, now Moskvich plant. The Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin and the General Director of KAMAZ company Sergei Kogogin signed an agreement that outlines the stages of future collaboration at the plant in the presence of the company's employees. Already at the first stage, by December 31, 2022, the partners plan to assemble at least 600 vehicles with SKD method; almost a third of them (200 vehicles) will have electric motors.

The enterprise intends to assemble at least 50,000 vehicles (a fifth of which will be electric vehicles) in 2023 and at least 100,000 vehicles (a fifth of which will have electric motors) in 2024. The strategic plan is scheduled for 8 years ahead. According to this plan, the enterprise should start CKD production in 2024. The company will have its own dealer network and after-sales service centers. KAMAZ undertakes to provide the plant with the necessary components - from countries friendly to Russia. Moreover, KAMAZ and the Government of Moscow, under the umbrella of the Russian Government, are starting to develop a new Russian universal platform for modern and safe passenger car assembly and organize the production of key automotive components: electric motors, batteries, control systems, safety systems, etc. There is only one question left - what vehicles can we expect from Moskvich plant this year?

A suggested lineup was presented yesterday in TASS report. Reporters identified these models with those produced by JAC. It turned out that the lineup included the JAC JS4 compact crossover with an internal combustion engine and its electric version, the JAC S7 crossover, two models of Sehol sub-brand - the X6 crossover and the A5 Plus compact liftback.
