Moscow to have its own platform for assembly of Moskvich electric vehicles

Moscow will develop its own platform for the assembly of the Moskvich electric vehicles. This was announced by the mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin on July 6. He told about plans to launch the assembly of passenger cars at the former Renault Russia plant. At the first stage, SKD assembly of vehicles with internal combustion engines from Russia-friendly countries will be established here (a suggested model range of such vehicles has already been presented; the design is very similar to the lineup of JAC crossovers). Together with their assembly, the Russian company will develop its own platform and organize production of key automotive components for the future electric vehicle - electric motors, batteries, control and safety systems. At the second stage, some components of the passenger cars assembled at Moskvich enterprise will be gradually replaced with domestically developed parts (body parts, brake systems, etc.)

Over the time, that is, already at the third stage, the enterprise will be capable to shift to the production of a localized domestic electric vehicle. In fact, potential consumers for this vehicle have already been prepared - residents of the capital who are accustomed to using taxi and car sharing services. At a rough estimate of some experts, the demand for taxis and carsharing alone in Moscow and Moscow region can be from 40,000 to 60,000 electric vehicles per year. It was also stated that Moskvich company will develop the platform and automotive components for the new electric vehicle in collaboration with KAMAZ. The result of this project should be production with a parent company in the capital and hundreds of automotive component suppliers.
