Russians could still buy Japanese cars

According to the data of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", at the beginning of 2022, there were 10 million 595 thousand cars of Japanese brands in Russia. This is almost a quarter (23.3%) of the Russian car fleet. The Koreans have a long way to catch up with their Japanese counterparts (13.2% of the fleet). Well, the "Chinese" in general are still at a "low start" (1.7%). Approximately one third of Japanese cars (32.5%) have a right-hand drive.

The most popular Japanese brand is Toyota. Almost 40% of the "Japanese" (4.14 million) account for this "legend of reliability." In second place there is the global Nissan. Every fifth "Japanese" car (21% or 2.22 million) has this nameplate on the bonnet. The top five also includes Mitsubishi (1.25 million), Mazda (807,000) and Honda (780,000 units), which quietly left Russia. In addition to these brands, you can often see Suzuki (440 thousand units), Lexus (336 thousand units), Subaru (299 thousand units), Datsun (140 thousand units) and Infinity (94 thousand units) cars on Russian roads. Less often, Daihatsu (49 thousand units), Isuzu (22 thousand units) and Acura (9 thousand units) are also found.

With the beginning of the “special operation”, representatives of Japanese brands hid and did not make any loud statements. Although, the assembly and import of new cars were suspended temporarily. Nevertheless, there is hope that they will not completely leave the Russian market. At the same time, the import of used right-hand drive cars from Japan has significantly intensified. So, in any case, the Russians will not be left without reliable Japanese cars.
