Russian business circles are intensifying contacts with the business community of the BRICS countries, President Vladimir Putin said. According to him, in particular, negotiations are underway to increase the share of Chinese cars. Meanwhile, automakers from China have already begun to increase their share in the Russian market - in May 2022 it reached 16.9%. Such data were found by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" by the results of processing and analysis of the relevant information of JSC "Electronic Passport" (EPTS).
Thus, in the previous month of spring, Russians bought 4,627 new passenger cars of Chinese brands, which is 16.9% of the total. And a year ago (in May 2021), the share of the "Chinese" was only 6.9%. That is, this indicator increased 2.5 times (by 10 percentage points). In other words, every sixth new car bought in May was from China. For comparison: in April this was every eighth. It is also worth noting that in May, the "Chinese" in terms of total sales have already bypassed the "Japanese", the share of which was 12.3%. Only domestic and Korean brands are higher (25.2% and 24.7% respectively).
"In the current situation, Chinese manufacturers feel most advantageous, as they continue to increase their market share in Russia. They also have difficulties with supplies, they are associated with setting up supply chains. Now the employees of Chinese representative offices involved in the development of the dealer network in Russia are working overtime, because almost all dealers have applied for dealerships of Chinese brands," Alexei Makarov, Director for Development and Corporate Management of the Nizhegorodets company, informed AUTOSTAT.
