Imports of passenger cars to Russia from China have been declining since April and fell to almost $32 million in May against $84.6 million a month earlier and $190.7 million in March, according to China's customs statistics. According to the Kommersant newspaper, finished cars are imported into our country from China by Chery, Changan and others. Geely assembles cars in Belarus, Haval - in the Tula region. Thus, the import of Chinese cars is not growing, despite the exhaustion of stocks of European cars and the reduction in production at AVTOVAZ. This is explained both by weak demand in the Russian car market, which continues to fall, and by difficulties with logistics. Analysts believe that automakers from China will not increase sharply deliveries to Russia due to the general shortage of cars in the world, as well as the uncertainty of the future policy of the Russian authorities in the automotive industry. Nevertheless, automakers from China continue to increase their share in the Russian market - in May 2022 it reached 16.9%.

Such data were found by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" by the results of processing and analysis of the relevant information of JSC "Electronic Passport" (EPTS). So, in the previous month of spring, Russians bought 4,627 new cars of Chinese brands, which is 16.9% of the total. And a year ago (in May 2021), the share of the "Chinese" cars was only 6.9%. That is, this indicator increased 2.5 times (by 10 percentage points). In other words, every sixth new car bought in May was from China. For comparison: in April this was every eighth. It is also worth noting that in May, the "Chinese" in terms of total sales have already bypassed the "Japanese", the share of which was 12.3%. Only domestic and Korean brands are higher (25.2% and 24.7% respectively).

"In the current situation, Chinese manufacturers feel most advantageous, as they continue to increase their market share in Russia. They also have difficulties with supplies; they are associated with the setting up of supply chains. Now the employees of Chinese representative offices involved in the development of the dealer network in Russia are working overtime, because almost all dealers have applied for dealerships of Chinese brands," Alexei Makarov, Director for Development and Corporate Management of the Nizhegorodets Company, informed AUTOSTAT.
