Dynamics of the Russian automotive market in the first half of 2021

KAMAZ predicts a fall of the Russian truck market by 30-40% in 2022

KAMAZ predicts a fall in the Russian market of heavy trucks (weighing 14-40 tons) in 2022 by 30-40% from the previous year's 79 thousand vehicles. This was announced by KAMAZ General Director Sergey Kogogin during a briefing at the SPIEF. "As for our sales, the main difficulty will be with the K4 and K5 generations. In this year's business plan, we had 16,000 K4 and K5 cars - 8,000 cars of each generation. We wanted to complete the production of K4 vehicles this year, maximum - before mid-2023, so the situation with K4 was not too critical for us. But the main story is with the K5 generation.

This year there was a plan to produce 8 thousand units, next year - 14 thousand units. And, of course, in the current situation, we have lost this volume," said the head of KAMAZ. According to him, the company has not stopped the production of trucks of modern generations, but has sharply reduced their production and is now developing stocks of the corresponding components. At the end of the year, KAMAZ expects to produce about 3-5 thousand trucks of the K4 and K5 generations instead of the planned 16 thousand. "It is painful for us, as expensive vehicles formed the main cash flow," Mr. Kogogin noted. The restoration of production of K5 generation vehicles is a key strategic task for KAMAZ, and in the first quarter of 2023 it is planned to start the production of the flagship model on a new component base, without the participation of foreign partners. In general, KAMAZ does not plan to reduce significantly the approved plan for the production of trucks for 2022 in units, primarily due to a significant increase in production volumes of K3 generation vehicles.

However, it will not allow for the growth in revenue indicators, as cars of the K5 generation are almost twice as expensive as K3. As a result, KAMAZ's revenue in 2022 will decrease due to a reduction in the production of the most marginal modern K4 and K5 models in favor of the simpler K3, as well as a drop in export deliveries, Mr. Kogogin predicts. Thus, the export of KAMAZ trucks this year may decrease by 20% from the planned 5,000 vehicles. The figure is expected to be between 4 and 5 thousand units.
