The government will develop a new strategy for the Russian auto industry

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to update the strategy for the development of the automotive industry by September 1st "with taking into account today's realities." According to him, the key element of the strategy should be the availability of Russia's own critical technologies and industries, their level should ensure the global competitiveness of the industry as a whole. As the head of state noted, scientific and technological development is a key component of the development of the industry. "It is necessary to maintain a focus on ensuring the technological sovereignty of Russia. Of course, it does not mean that absolutely all production processes in the automotive industry should take place in our country.

But key, critical things, such as engineering developments, intellectual property rights and know-how, must, of course, be Russian," Mr. Putin said. In connection with the withdrawal from the Russian market of a number of suppliers-participants of broad cooperation in the production of cars, the production volumes fell sharply. In this regard, the government was instructed to work out a set of measures to support the industry and stabilize the domestic market. The primary task, in the opinion of the head of state, is to ensure the operation of car plants in Russia, supply them with the necessary components, and keep the employment of enterprise teams. The second task is to ensure a sufficient supply of vehicles, primarily passenger cars.

The President separately touched upon the issue of reducing demand for commercial vehicles and proposed the expanding measures to support this direction. Mr. Putin also announced the need to update the public transport fleet in the regions: trolleybuses, buses that operate on urban and suburban routes.
