Dynamics of the secondary market by months in 2019 - 2021

The Russian car market fell to the ninth place in Europe in May 2022

The Russian automotive market, which set another anti-record in May, continued to lose ground in the European championship. According to the data received by the agency "AUTOSTAT" in the national associations of European car manufacturers, Germany became the leader in sales of cars in May, where 207,199 cars were sold (-10.2%). France ranked the second among the largest European car markets with 126,809 cars (-10.1%). The United Kingdom showed the third result - 124,397 sold cars (-20.6%). Italy is the next, the dealers of which sold 121,299 vehicles (-15.1%). According to the Italian Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ANFIA), the launch of measures to subsidize the purchase of environmentally friendly cars in the second half of May has somewhat softened the ongoing decline in sales, although it is still measured in double digits. Spain still finishes the top five, the car market of which in May fell by 10.9% and reached 84,977 cars. This is the best result since the beginning of the year, although it is still about 30% below the pre-Covid 2019 level, due to continued disruptions in the supply of new cars due to shortages of electronic components for their production, according to the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC).

If, when considering the automotive market in Europe, Russia is taken into account, then our country has dropped from seventh to ninth place in the European ranking, leaving behind Belgium and Sweden. According to data from the Association of European Businesses, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were 24,268 units (-83.5%) the previous month.
