UAZ and KAMAZ are in the EU sanctions list

The European Union imposed sanctions against the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant and KAMAZ because of the possible use of their equipment by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine. The document states that UAZ refers to the UAZ Patriot car, while KAMAZ refers to the KAMAZ-5350 truck, the 6350 flatbed tractor and the 6560 heavy SUV. Meanwhile, Remdiesel is also separately included in the list with reference to KAMAZ, Kommersant newspaper writes. Due to the sanctions, both KAMAZ and UAZ, in particular, will not be able to export their vehicles to the European market as “dual-use products”.

In addition, with reference to the supply of tires for the armed forces, the sanctions list includes the assets of Tatneft, Nizhnekamsk Truck Tire Plant, PJSC Nizhnekamskshina and Trade House Kama, which, as indicated, sells the products of these plants. It is worth noting that KAMAZ, unlike UAZ, was already in the EU sanctions list. Already on February 26th - two days after the start of the military operation in Ukraine - the company came under restrictions due to "control by the Russian government."

Even then, the EU banned its access to the capital market and any type of financial services, the provision of technical assistance or trade with it in military or dual-use products and technologies. After that, the German Daimler suspended the work of the joint venture with KAMAZ in Russia. Sanctions from Great Britain, Australia and Poland also apply to KAMAZ. UAZ says they do not see significant risks for business due to being included in the sanctions list, as the company “has been working for a long time in conditions of refusal to supply components from European manufacturers and is consistently implementing a program to replace the component base.”

“The production program is being carried out according to the plan. Social guarantees for employees are observed in full,” UAZ assured. Meanwhile, the UAZ Patriot and Pickup models are equipped with the PunchPowerglide 6L50 automatic transmission, which is produced in France, and the European Union prohibits its companies from interacting with sanctioned structures. Thus, the Korean 5-speed Dymos manual transmission will remain the only transmission for them. In fact, only AVTOVAZ, the recently departed Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI, and Dmitry Strezhnev's Ural from the traditionally domestic automobile plants have not been sanctioned today. In relation to another asset - GAZ Group - at the end of May, American sanctions began to operate.
