How many cars are there in Russian million-plus cities?

Million-plus cities in our country accounted for 22% of the whole Russian fleet of passenger cars (that is, almost one in five). This was found out by the experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" based on the results of processing and analysis of the relevant data of JSC "Electronic Passport".

According to the latest population census conducted in 2021, there are 16 million-plus cities in Russia. In addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg, this list includes Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Voronezh, Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ufa, Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd and Perm. In total, 10 million 195 thousand cars were registered in these 16 cities as of January 1st, 2022.

Moscow has the largest fleet among Russian cities with a population over a million, with almost 3.7 million cars. Also, there are over a million cars in St. Petersburg (1.7 million units). The fleets of other million-plus cities are less than 500 thousand units, and the smallest of them is in Perm (248 thousand units).
