Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg, which has suspended the car production since March 1 due to a shortage of components, has extended its downtime until June 30th. This is reported by the publication "Fontanka" with reference to the mailing list to employees of the enterprise. According to sources, from July 4 to July 17, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant will have a planned collective vacation. Thus, the conveyor will most likely not resume operation until July 18th. Downtime at the Hyundai WIA engine plant, as well as at suppliers' enterprises, was extended for the same period. The press service of Hyundai did not comment on the situation.
According to the employees, a meeting was recently held with the management of the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant. Top management said that Hyundai has no plans to leave the Russian market yet. Reduction of shifts or employees is not considered. But the option that the downtime will drag on until the end of the year is not excluded. In this case, the maintenance of employees and the payment of 2/3 of the salary will continue, the company has the funds for this. Online training is also possible, for which additional payment will be paid. Recall that the most massive model on the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus conveyor is the Kia Rio - in January-April 2022, 18,677 cars of this model (-41%) were sold in Russia.
At the same time, during the reporting period, Rio became the best-selling car in the Russian market. Hyundai Solaris sedan was chosen by 15,606 buyers, less by 22% than the previous year. Sales of Hyundai Creta compact crossover were 11,216 units (-57%).
