The Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed the involvement of Chinese companies in the production at the Moskvich plant

Work to attract a Chinese manufacturer to the production of Moskvich cars is underway, two companies are being considered. The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov spoke about it, but did not disclose their names. In turn, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the former Renault plant would not produce old models of the Moskvich car, but that "the most modern models" would be produced there. He also noted that "international partners will also be needed for this work, because it is impossible to create a domestic car from scratch on your own." According to him, "there are prospects" for this.

Recall that the Moscow plant "Renault Russia" was transferred to the Moscow government without an option to buy back, while the deal was made at a symbolic cost. By the end of 2022, the company plans to resume the production of passenger cars under the historical Moskvich brand. At the same time, the Renault lineup will not be produced at the plant in Moscow. KAMAZ will become the main technological partner of the Moskvich plant. At the first stage, the production of classic cars with an internal combustion engine will be organized, and in the future, electric cars will be produced. At the same time, the company's development strategy involves both cooperation with foreign brands and the development of its own products, including electrical ones.

According to sources, KAMAZ is negotiating with its current partner, the auto concern JAC, and the Moscow authorities are working on cooperation with other Chinese automakers, among which, in particular, FAW and BYD are named. A fundamental decision on the model for the Moscow enterprise has not been made yet.
