AVTOVAZ will not resume the production the next week

AVTOVAZ due to the lack of components will introduce downtime from May 30th to June 3rd, inclusively. Leonid Yemshanov, a representative of the independent trade union of workers at the Unity automobile plant, told Interfax about it. Recall that AVTOVAZ suspended the production of cars from April 30th to May 11th due to a planned corporate vacation (from May 4th to 6th) and holidays, but then repeatedly extended the downtime due to the ongoing shortage of auto components. Earlier this week, AVTOVAZ president Maxim Sokolov announced a likely resumption of car production in early June, and then a gradual restoration of its volumes. According to dealers, the first model to be released after a long period of inactivity will be LADA Granta in a simplified version.

Such cars are expected to be on sale in the second half of June. Meanwhile, due to the forecast of the Russian car market and the ongoing crisis in the supply of electronic components, AVTOVAZ introduces a 4-day working week at production sites in Togliatti and Izhevsk from June 6th, 2022 for a period of 3 months. The reduced regime applies to 100% of AVTOVAZ employees. As AUTOSTAT previously reported, in April AVTOVAZ sold 8,506 LADA cars in the Russian market, which is 78% lower than a year before. According to the results of four months of 2022, Russian LADA dealers sold 61,218 cars, which is 50% lower than in the same period of the previous year.
