FSUE "NAMI" may become a monopoly in the field of car certification

The Research Automotive and Automotive Institute of FSUE "NAMI" became the only organization that was given the right to "assess the compliance of vehicles (chassis) with technical requirements", as well as conduct research, testing and measurements. Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated May 12th, 2022 No. 855 "On Approval of the Rules for the Application of Mandatory Requirements for Certain Vehicles and the Assessment of Their Compliance" assigns such a role to him. Recall that this document allows the production of simplified cars without ABS, ESP and airbags.

According to Sergei Burgazliev, an independent automotive industry consultant, by this decree, the government creates actually a monopoly in the field of vehicle certification in the person of NAMI. Taking into account the fact that most of the shares of AVTOVAZ were transferred to NAMI, a mega-regulator with the functions of a manufacturer will appear in our country, the expert notes. In turn, the press service of the institute itself stated that FSUE NAMI is a competent organization that, on behalf of Rosstandart, examines all vehicle type approvals issued by all accredited certification bodies for their correctness and validity of issuance.
