Volkswagen will not resume the car production in Russia in the nearest future. However, the closure of sites in Nizhny Novgorod or Kaluga is out of the question. This is reported by Autonews.ru with reference to the letter from Volkswagen Passenger Cars, which was received by Russian dealers. It also says that the waiting time for warranty repairs may increase, while the company continues to supply Russian dealers with spare parts. Recall that Volkswagen Group Rus plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod have temporarily suspended the production of cars since March 3rd due to Russia's special military operation in Ukraine and the ensuing problems with the supply of components. The plant in Kaluga produces Volkswagen Tiguan crossover, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid liftbacks.

At the facilities of GAZ Group, Volkswagen Group Rus conducts the contract assembly of the Volkswagen Taos, Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq crossovers, as well as Skoda Octavia liftback. In 2021, 170.3 thousand cars were produced at the company's production sites, among which 118 thousand cars were produced at the company's plant in Kaluga, as well as 52.3 thousand cars at the production site in Nizhny Novgorod.
