The new president of AVTOVAZ was appointed

Maxim Sokolov, the former Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation and Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, has been appointed President of AVTOVAZ, replacing Nicolas Maure. According to the relevant decision of the board of directors of AVTOVAZ, he took office on Monday, May 23rd. Maksim Sokolov (born 1968) graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the Leningrad State University in 1991. In 1991 - 1993 he taught the history of economic doctrines and macroeconomics at the Faculty of Economics of St. Petersburg State University.

Since 2011, he has been a lecturer and head of the Department of State and Municipal Administration at the Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University. In 1994 - 1999, Maxim Sokolov worked as the general director of Rossi CJSC, and from 1999 to 2004 he was the general director of Corporation S LLC in St. Petersburg. In 2004 - 2009, he served as the Chairman of the Committee for Investments and Strategic Projects of the Administration of St. Petersburg. In this position, he attracted a large pool of investors to the city, including automakers Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai and General Motors. In 2009, he was appointed the director of the Department of Industry and Infrastructure of the Government of the Russian Federation and he was a member of the government of St. Petersburg, chairman of the committee for economic development, industrial policy and trade. In 2012 - 2018 he worked as the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.

In 2018 - 2020, Maxim Sokolov headed LSR Group as CEO. From December 2019 to May 20, 2022, he held the position of Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, responsible for resolving issues of investment policy, transport and tourism, industrial and scientific and technical policy, business development and the consumer market. Recall that on May 16th, agreements were signed on the transfer of Russian assets of the Renault Group to state ownership.
