Chinese cars will be produced under the brand name "Moskvich"

The Moskvich plant intends to launch the production of Chinese cars instead of Renault models. According to the Vedomosti newspaper, citing its sources, the production is planned to be launched no later than the fourth quarter of 2022 with cars with an internal combustion engine, and then switch to electric vehicles. According to one of the interlocutors, KAMAZ is negotiating with its current partner, JAC automaker. At the same time, Moscow authorities are working on cooperation with other Chinese automakers, among which, according to Izvestia, are FAW and BYD.

A fundamental decision on the model for the Moscow enterprise has not been made yet. Recall that Renault Russia plant was transferred to the Moscow government without a buyback option, while the deal was completed at a symbolic cost. By the end of 2022, the company plans to resume the production of passenger cars under the historical Moskvich brand. At the same time, Renault lineup will not be produced at the plant in Moscow. KAMAZ will become the main technological partner of the Moskvich plant. At the same time, the company's development strategy involves both cooperation with foreign brands and the development of its own products, including electrical ones.

In addition, Moscow, together with KAMAZ and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, is working on localizing the production of the maximum number of auto components in Russia. The production capacity of the enterprise is 188 thousand cars per a year. Renault's total investment in the Moscow plant reaches 480 million Euros.
