The fate of Nissan assets in Russia should be decided in the nearest future

Negotiations on the fate of the assets of foreign automakers that have suspended the production in Russia for a long time will continue in the nearest future. One of the first in line will be Nissan, which has postponed the start of production until March the next year, said Denis Manturov, head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. In addition, according to him, the participation in Russian car enterprises is being discussed with several Chinese automakers at once. At the same time, the minister did not specify which Chinese manufacturers are participants in the discussions and in which projects they are interested, the Interfax news agency writes.

Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida said the previous week that the company's suspended business operations in Russia may not resume until the end of fiscal 2022 year (end of March 31st, 2023). Recall that Nissan plant in St. Petersburg has suspended the work since March 14 due to interruptions in the supply of components. This company produces crossovers Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano. To date, the number of employees of the plant is about 2000 people. Earlier, Nissan also suspended the deliveries to Russia of the new generation Nissan Pathfinder SUV, which went on sale in mid-February 2022.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, according to the results of four months of 2022, Russian dealers of Nissan sold 11,750 Nissan cars, which is 33% lower than the figure for the same period of the previous year. As a result, Nissan ranked the eighth in terms of sales among all automakers in Russia, and the brand's market share was 4.0% in compare with 3.4% a year before, according to the AEB.
